Dear Haverford College Board of Managers,
We, the undersigned alumni of Haverford College, stand in solidarity with Haverford College students
who are striking in outrage at the college administration’s inadequate and inappropriate response to the
murder of Walter Wallace Jr. at the hands of the Philadelphia Police Department. We commend students
of the college for speaking out against the continued anti-Blackness at Haverford College and the lack of
institutional support provided to Black Haverford students.
We request that the administration meet the demands of the striking students. Until the student strike’s
demands are met, we, a group of engaged alumni, will be taking the following actions:
●
●
●
●
Posting messages of strike solidarity and amplifying strike demands to Twitter, Instagram, and
Facebook daily, tagging institutional accounts
Sharing information about the student strike to our personal networks, which include journalists,
members of the media, politicians, technology professionals, academics, higher education
professionals, social workers, public health professionals, and mutual aid groups
Withholding donations to the Haverford College Annual Fund
Speaking to other alumni of the college and urging them to take the same actions
We understand that meeting the demands of striking students requires long-term institutional
commitments and significant work by you, the members of the Board. We sign below to urge you to take
inspiration from student strikers' sense of the possible--and our signatures commit us to supporting the
College as it meaningfully addresses these systemic injustices.
Respectfully yours,
