Dear Students, Staff, and Faculty,
The opportunity to build a renewed Haverford stands before us. While the past two weeks have been tremendously
disruptive, we recognize that true disruption is often required to make meaningful change. The students of Women of
Color House, Black Students Refusing Further Inaction, Black Student League, and allies inspired extraordinary work that
will lead to extraordinary change.
The efforts of the past two weeks have brought forward the beginnings of a powerful roadmap for action toward racial
justice. The challenges and commitments that emerged during the strike will necessarily grow in length and breadth. May
we learn from our own history that our pursuit of racial equity at Haverford has no endpoint and can brook no
complacency. This journey requires continual effort, creativity, and vigilance.
As we move forward, each of us must take on the responsibility to live the values and practices of racial justice, mindful
that we have the capacity to change this College for the better. We can embrace that challenge together on shared paths
forward, and do so without retribution. Unity of purpose requires us to seek and build on common ground, across a variety
of perspectives.
Significant change brings discomfort and stress. A time of healing lies ahead. In the meantime, I wish you all an enlivened
sense of what’s possible in the coming days and decades.
Sincerely,
Wendy
