3rd mo. 5th Awbury
My dear Chellie
When I began the few lines in lead-pencil on First day morn'g I intended to finish it later in the day, but instead I went to drive with thy father after meeting, and after dinner I spent considerable time on the piazza with Carrie and her little boy Draper who seems to be gaining strength quite rapidly. Therefore I felt too tired to write later, consequently it was left, as I was otherwise occupied to day. This afternoon was clear & sunny, and thy father took a drive after being in town this morn'g, on business. Hazen returned home from New York this evening and we are all about as well as usual. Frank Jr. came in a few minutes before supper and says they are well. George Hartshorne also called the first time I think that I have seen him here; he told us that Marion put on her bride-maid's dress for his benefit and looked very fine. Thee knows John Elmer's wedding is to be tomorrow, and she & Sam are to officiate. There are to be 6 bridemaids I hear, and as many ushers. It seems sad that Jay Brown's death must throw a shadow over the occasion. He died on 7th day I believe, and his mother is on her way home to day with his remains, and will not get here until tomorrow, I understood. Algie took dinner with us yesterday and seemed very well, and it was a great pleasure to have him. I noticed by the newspaper that the Conference at Nashville closed last evening. Thy father sends his love with mine to thee & Anna hoping you are well.
in haste affectionately
Mother.
